About Surah Luqman
Surah Luqman (لقمان) is the thirty-first chapter of the Holy Quran. Its name means “Luqman.” It is a Makki Surah consisting of 34 ayahs and is contained in the twenty-first Juz of the Quran.
Surah Luqman contains the well-known advice of Luqman to his son and presents practical lessons about faith, family, worship, and good character.
Luqman's first major advice is to avoid associating partners with Allah, establishing Tawheed as the foundation of a righteous life.
The Surah also teaches kindness and gratitude toward parents while making clear that obedience to people does not come before obedience to Allah.
Luqman advises his son to establish prayer, encourage what is right, discourage wrongdoing, and remain patient when facing difficulties.
He also warns against arrogance, looking down on others, walking proudly, and speaking harshly. These teachings emphasize humility and balanced behavior.
Surah Luqman also invites people to observe the signs of Allah in the heavens, the earth, the sea, and the changing conditions of creation.
