About Surah At-Tahrim

Surah At-Tahrim (التحريم) is the sixty-sixth chapter of the Holy Quran. Its name means “The Prohibition.” It is a Madani Surah consisting of 12 ayahs and is contained in the twenty-eighth Juz of the Quran.

Surah At-Tahrim addresses lessons from events within the household of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and teaches principles of repentance, family responsibility, and sincerity.

The Surah begins by correcting a personal restriction the Prophet ﷺ had placed upon himself and reminds believers not to make lawful things permanently forbidden without divine authority.

It discusses confidentiality and the consequences of sharing private information in ways that create difficulty.

The Surah calls believers toward sincere repentance and instructs them to protect themselves and their families through faith and obedience.

It presents the wives of Nuh and Lut as examples showing that family connection alone cannot guarantee salvation.

In contrast, the wife of Pharaoh and Maryam are presented as examples of strong faith, demonstrating that sincere belief can remain firm even in difficult environments.
