Surah Al-Isra

Surah Al-Isra (الإسراء) is the seventeenth chapter of the Holy Quran. Its name means “The Night Journey.” It is a Makki Surah consisting of 111 ayahs and is contained in the fifteenth Juz of the Quran.

Surah Al-Isra begins by referring to the miraculous Night Journey of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, in which Allah took His servant by night from Al-Masjid Al-Haram to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa. This event gives the Surah its name.

The Surah discusses important themes of Tawheed, worship, moral responsibility, respect for parents, justice, humility, patience, and accountability before Allah. It provides practical guidance for building strong personal character and a responsible society.

One of the important teachings in Surah Al-Isra is the command to worship Allah alone and treat parents with kindness. Believers are instructed to speak respectfully to their parents, care for them, and pray for Allah's mercy upon them.

The Surah also contains guidance against wastefulness, arrogance, unlawful killing, dishonesty, and misuse of wealth. It encourages moderation, fairness, and responsible behavior in everyday life.

Surah Al-Isra emphasizes the importance of the Holy Quran as guidance and mercy for believers. It reminds readers that people are responsible for how they respond to divine guidance and that everyone will ultimately answer for their own actions.

The Surah also refers to Prophet Musa (Moses), peace be upon him, and the Children of Israel, drawing lessons from earlier communities about obedience, gratitude, and the consequences of wrongdoing.

Another important theme is the dignity Allah has given to human beings. People are encouraged to use their abilities, knowledge, and resources responsibly while recognizing that true honor and guidance come from Allah.
