Surah Al-Furqan

Surah Al-Furqan (الفرقان) is the twenty-fifth chapter of the Holy Quran. Its name means “The Criterion,” referring to the revelation that distinguishes truth from falsehood. It is a Makki Surah consisting of 77 ayahs and extends across the eighteenth and nineteenth Juz of the Quran.

Surah Al-Furqan emphasizes important themes of Tawheed, divine revelation, prophethood, accountability, and the difference between truth and falsehood. It reminds people that the Quran was revealed as guidance and a warning for humanity.

The Surah responds to objections raised by those who rejected the message of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It explains that the Prophet was a human messenger who lived among people, ate food, and walked in marketplaces, just as earlier messengers had lived ordinary human lives.

Surah Al-Furqan repeatedly draws attention to the signs of Allah in creation, including the heavens, the alternation of night and day, the sun, rain, water, and the natural world. These signs encourage people to reflect on Allah's power, wisdom, and mercy.

The Surah also describes the consequences faced by earlier communities that rejected their prophets. These accounts serve as reminders that persistent rejection of divine guidance carries serious consequences.

One of the most important sections of Surah Al-Furqan describes the qualities of Ibad ar-Rahman, the servants of the Most Merciful. They are described as humble people who respond peacefully to ignorance, worship Allah sincerely, avoid major sins, spend with moderation, and turn to Allah in repentance.

The Surah teaches that sincere believers should maintain humility, patience, moderation, prayer, repentance, and good character. Their conduct should reflect their faith in their relationships with Allah and with other people.

Surah Al-Furqan concludes by highlighting the reward prepared for those who remain patient and righteous. It reminds believers that true success comes from following divine guidance and living with sincerity and good character.
