About Surah Al-'Alaq
Surah Al-'Alaq (العلق) is the ninety-sixth chapter of the Holy Quran. Its name means “The Clinging Clot.” It is a Makki Surah consisting of 19 ayahs and is contained in the thirtieth Juz of the Quran.
Surah Al-'Alaq contains the opening verses of Quranic revelation and begins with the command to read in the name of the Lord who created.
The Surah connects knowledge with recognition of Allah rather than presenting learning as something independent of the Creator.
It refers to the creation of human beings from a clinging substance and highlights the gift of teaching through the pen.
The Surah then warns that people can become arrogant when they imagine themselves to be self-sufficient.
It condemns attempts to prevent a servant of Allah from praying and presents such opposition as a serious form of wrongdoing.
Surah Al-'Alaq concludes with the command to prostrate and draw near to Allah, connecting knowledge, worship, and humility.
